Introduction
Library and Information Science (LIS) is an interdisciplinary, professional, job oriented programme. Library and Information professionals are to manage collections of information resources, evaluate, analyze, organize, package, and present information and train people in its usage. The purpose of the department is to stimulate and promote the students with theories, practices and research in the field of library and information science, archival science and museum management with modern Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). The competent information provider and information professionals are the key element through which all citizens can effectively communicate, thereby facilitating the achievement of the information/knowledge society.
Scope:
As global society is moving towards a knowledge society with proliferation of learning and research institutes the demand and importance of LIS is growing rapidly. Wherever information needs to be organized and presented to the users in an effective, efficient and service oriented manner, the LIS professionals will be needed. The program is targeting the job market in all kinds of libraries, information centres, archives, museums, mass media, government and non-government organizations.

Eligibility:
Candidates must have passed Post graduation in the relevant discipline from a UGC recognized University with 50% marks in aggregate. However an applicant with M.Phil/CSIR-UGC/JRF/NET/SLET cleared in the relevant subject is exempted from Entrance test.
Minimum duration for Ph.D. is 3 years including course work and maximum of 6 years (full time / part time).
