Honorable Mr. Justice Satish Kumar Mittal, Judge, Hight Court of Punjab & Haryana has inaugurated the Legal Services Clinic at SRM University Haryana Campus

Access to justice for all As a part of its continuing efforts of providing greater access to justice to the unreached people, the Haryana State Legal Services Authority (HALSA), opened another Legal Services Clinic on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at SRM University Haryana situated in the Rajiv Gandhi Education Society here in Rai, Sonepat, The Clinic was inaugurated by Hon’ble Justice Satish Kumar Mittal, Executive Chairman of HALSA and Hon’ble Justice Augustine George Masih of the High Court of Punjab & Haryana. The inaugural programme was presided by Prof. S. Rajarajan, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of SRM University Haryana. The programme began with Dr. Ashok Kantroo, Dean of Law welcoming various dignitaries, sarpanches and other guests. Hon’ble Justice Satish Kumar Mittal in his inaugural address commended the efforts of SRM University Haryana (SRMUH) for its commitment to service of the disadvantaged groups through the establishment of Legal Services Clinic. He desired that the Clinic would benefit the poor and needy in the Sonepat. The highlight of the Programme was the enactment of a drama titled ‘Goonj’ performed by the students of law of SRMUH. The theme of the drama revolved around creating awareness on social evils such as female infanticide, honour killings and violence against women. This was followed by a prize distribution ceremony where Justice Satish Kumar Mittal and Justice Augustine George Masih distributed certificates to school children who won the poster competition which was organised by the Faculty of Law, SRMUH to commemorate this event. The inauguration concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Dr. M.L. Kalicharan, Head of Department of Law, SRMUH.

This Clinic will be operated with the help of specialised staff provided by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Sonepat and the law students of SRMUH who have been imparted special training. The Clinic will function on Mondays and Thursdays between 10am and 5pm under the supervision of Ms. Mercy Deborah, Convenor of Legal Services Clinic, SRMUH.

The Clinic will work as a single window facility for helping general public to solve their problems where the operation of law comes into picture. The aim of this Clinic is to provide inexpensive legal aid by rendering legal services of basic nature such as legal advice, and using conciliatory methods of resolving disputes among people so as to prevent disputes from maturing into litigation.
