Celebration of World Mental Health Day, 2019

The Department of Psychology at SRM University, Delhi-NCR, Sonepat Haryana celebrated the World Mental Health Day on 10th October, 2019 to promote mental health awareness and to enhance mental well-being. Every year World Health Organization (WHO) states a theme for spreading message about mental health across the globe. The theme for this year was “Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention” for which the university organized an awareness programme.
The renowned speakers from the field of psychology were invited to address students as well as the faculty members - Dr. Achal Kumar Srivastava (Professor of Clinical Neurophysiology in the Department of Neurology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences), Dr. Rohit Verma (Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at All India Institute of Medical Sciences) and Dr. Khushboo Kansal (Consultant Psychiatrist at Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh). The speakers addressed the students about the importance of mental health and how mental well-being can be promoted.
Honorable Vice Chancellor- Dr. P Prakash and Dean Academic Affairs- Prof. V Samuel Raj addressed the students about mental health and its importance. A play was organized by the students with its name “Kahani Ansuni” which focused on generating awareness about the suicide and its causes. It showed how suicide rates are increasing day by day and what measures should be taken to prevent it. This was followed group song by the Tarang Group in which students presented songs which added energy and motivation to the Mental Health Day Programme.
