The Faculty of Law at SRM University, Delhi-NCR, Sonepat, organized a notable guest lecture titled "A Strong Competition Law for Protecting Human Rights" on the occasion of the inaugural ceremony of the Centre for Corporate, Competition, and Insolvency Laws. The lecture aimed to explore the intersection between competition law and human rights, featuring Shri Kuldeep Kumar, Joint Director at the Competition Commission of India, as the esteemed guest speaker.

The event began with the auspicious ceremony of lamp lighting by Dean Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Kumar Singh, HOD Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Kulshreshta and Faculty coordinators of CCCIL Prof. Manpreet Kaur and Prof. Rashi Malik followed by a warm welcome of the guest by HOD Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Kulshreshta presenting him with a sapling, our promising token of respect and gratitude. The Dean of the Faculty of Law stepped onto the platform and shared insightful remarks with the audience, extending a warm welcome to the esteemed guest of the day. During this introduction, he highlighted the guest speaker's remarkable achievements, significant contributions in their field, and noteworthy accolades, underscoring the guest's impactful works and accomplishments.

Shri Kuldeep Kumar's lecture was divided into three phases; wherein in the first phase he discussed the important provisions of the Competition Act, elucidated the functioning and role of the Competition Commission of India (CCI), outlined the procedure for filing complaints before the CCI, and detailed jurisdiction of National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), and the Supreme Court in competition-related matters. In the second phase of his lecture, he shed light on the concept of human rights, emphasizing the role and operations of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). He highlighted the relevance of Right to Life as basic human right, excessive pricing situation during the pandemic times, types of cases related to such matters dealt by the Commission and compensation paid. In the third phase, his lecture delved into the intersection between the Competition Act and human rights, exploring how competition law can contribute to upholding human rights standards.

The lecture was followed by an interactive Q&A session, allowing attendees to engage with the speaker and gain deeper insights into the discussed topics. Lastly, Prof. Manpreet Kaur expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the Faculty of Law, acknowledging Shri Kuldeep Kumar's significant contribution to the success of the enlightening and insightful session.
