Introduction

 

The Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, SRM University Delhi-NCR, Sonepat, jointly organized a One Week Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Next-Generation Wearable Healthcare Systems: AI, Signal Processing, and Digital Health Innovations” from 13th July to 17th July 2026. The programme was designed to familiarize faculty members, researchers, and academicians with the latest developments in wearable healthcare technologies, biomedical signal processing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and digital health.
 
The FDP provided an excellent platform for interdisciplinary learning through lectures delivered by distinguished academicians from premier institutions such as IIT Delhi, IIT Roorkee, IIT Ropar, and SLIET Longowal.
 

Objectives of the FDP

 

The primary objectives of the programme were:
 
  • To provide participants with an understanding of recent advancements in wearable healthcare systems.
  • To explore the applications of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in healthcare.
  • To discuss recent developments in biomedical signal processing and biosensors.
  • To promote interdisciplinary research in biomedical engineering and healthcare technologies.
  • To encourage collaboration among academicians and researchers working in emerging healthcare domains.
 

Inaugural Session

 

The Faculty Development Programme commenced on 13th July 2026 with the inaugural session attended by faculty members, researchers, and participants from various institutions. The organizers welcomed all participants and highlighted the importance of emerging healthcare technologies and artificial intelligence in transforming modern healthcare.
 
The objectives, schedule, and expected outcomes of the FDP were introduced before the commencement of the technical sessions.
 

Technical Sessions

 
Day 1 – 13th July 2026
Speaker: Dr. Suryasnata Tripathy Department of Biomedical Engineering, IIT Ropar
Topic: “Biosensor Development and Device-Oriented Healthcare Technologies”
 
The speaker introduced the fundamentals of biosensors and their applications in healthcare monitoring. The session highlighted advances in wearable sensing technologies, medical devices, and future directions in healthcare diagnostics.
 
Day 2 – 14th July 2026
Speaker: Prof. Ravibabu Mulaveesala Centre for Sensors, Instrumentation and Cyber Physical System Engineering (SeNSE), IIT Delhi
Topic: “Infrared Imaging Applications in Biomedical Engineering”
 
The lecture focused on infrared imaging principles and their applications in biomedical diagnosis, disease detection, thermal imaging, and non-invasive healthcare technologies. Participants gained valuable insights into advanced imaging systems and current research trends.
 
Day 3 – 15th July 2026
Speaker: Prof. Ashwani Kumar Aggarwal Department of Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering, SLIET Longowal
 
Topic: “ECG Arrhythmia Classification: Challenges and Solutions for Missing and Unbalanced Data”
 
The session addressed various challenges in ECG signal analysis, including data imbalance and missing data problems. Advanced AI and machine learning approaches for arrhythmia classification were discussed with practical examples.
 
Day 4 – 16th July 2026
Speaker: Dr. M. Felix Orlando Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Roorkee
Topic: “Learning-Based Control and Intelligent Wearable Robotic Systems for Healthcare Applications”
 
The lecture focused on intelligent wearable robotic systems, rehabilitation technologies, and learning-based control strategies. Participants were introduced to emerging robotic healthcare solutions and AI-assisted rehabilitation systems.
 
Day 5 – 17th July 2026
Speaker: Dr. Tharun Kumar Reddy Bollu Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, IIT Roorkee
Topic: “AI/Generative AI-Based Insights for Signal Processing in Brain-Computer Interface”
 
The concluding session explored the role of Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI in Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) systems. The speaker discussed advanced signal processing techniques, AI-driven interpretation of brain signals, and future research opportunities in intelligent healthcare systems.
 

Participation

 

The FDP witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, research scholars, postgraduate students, and academicians from various AICTE/UGC-approved institutions.
