National Conference on Technological Innovations in Management, Engineering and Sciences (TIMES -2019)

India enjoys a natural comparative advantage by virtue of demography and inherited knowledge systems. The conversion of comparative advantage to competitive strength will require carefully planned interventions. The realization of Vision 2020 of India would call for action and a well-designed innovation infrastructure to be developed and implemented.

The progress that science has made plays a vital role in the way we live today and its influence increases with each passing day. The discussions about Science, Engineering, Management, and Technology etc. at some time or another and often need to make decisions which could be better if they were based on scientific knowledge. One of the developments that has had the greatest impact in recent years is of course the progress made in the way we communicate and access information.

While innovation is a well-defined concept, it has a broad meaning to many people, especially numerous understanding in the academic and business world, particularly in the fields of engineering, technology, Management and so on. It is hoped the deliberations of the TIMES 2019 conference facilitated to come up with new strategies for technological innovation within the student, faculty, institution, country and globally.

The two-day proceedings of this Conference has wonderful things to offer on scholarship. Prof. V. Samuel Raj, Dean Academics and Director C4D, SRM University, welcomed all the dignitaries and the invited speakers along with the participants of the conference. Dr. P Prakash, Vice-Chancellor, SRM University Delhi-NCR, in his presidential address spoke about the need to catch up with the changing times, and the need to update through interdisciplinary approaches to become a multidimensional personality.

Prof. Sushma Yadav, Vice-Chancellor, Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, Sonepat, who was the Chief Guest, inaugurated the conference, emphatically articulated that this is considered to be a unique event, which converged on recent developments in Management, Engineering and Sciences, has attracted eminent academicians, scientists, policy makers and professionals from varied organizations, institutions and industries, gathered in a single platform to deliver talks, discuss their research, exchange ideas and inspire the gathering. Prof. Yadav emphasized on the need to contextualize our education in such a way that scientific inventions and innovations benefit our countrymen and humanity as a whole. Furthermore, she added, the higher educational institutions of the country must also create environment and opportunities for young minds to not only explore and innovate but also benefit themselves and the society through their inventions and innovations.

Dr. John Samuel, former Special Secretary, Ministry of Telecom, Government of India, who was the guest of honour, in his talk, inspired the gathering by highlighting the life changing innovations of Einstein, APJ Abdul Kalam, Metro-Man Sreedharan and others.

Dr. Sandhya Chintala, Vice President, NASSCOM, pointed out that the fourth industrial revolution has begun and the academic institutions and the students have to work together with other organizations so as to keep up with the kind of skills required to be productive in today’s world.
Prof. K. Srinivas, NIEPA, one of the invited speakers, delineated how to innovate classrooms through IOT (Internet of Things) and other technologies. Ms. Monika Gupta, Telecom Consultant, IET India, elucidated that science in basically a study of systematic experimentation to generate knowledge, and management has its components of planning, organizing, constructing and analyzing. The first day proceedings had many effervescent presentations by scholars from different fields.

The second and the final day of conference, Technological Innovation in Management Engineering and Sciences (TIMES 2019) witnessed discussions on an array of topics ranging from cyber security to spintronics. The morning session of TIMES -2019 (April 26–27) organized and hosted by SRM University Delhi-NCR, Sonepat began with the presentation by Mr. Susheel Sharma, General Manager, New Holland Tractor. He introduced Industrial Revolution 4.0 and spoke about the automation of industries.

Prof. Brijesh Kumar Kaushik, IIT Roorkee in his talk, titled, “Spintronics- Perspectives and Challenges” provided the basics and advancements that happened in the memory technologies and delivered his lecture on memory hierarchy in acquiring a pivotal position in computational system such as SRAM, DRAM, and FLASH. He said how the industry is rapidly changing, and how we must adapt to keep up.

Dr, Shriram Raghunathan, Professor, VIT Bhopal in his talk, titled, “Emerging Trends in Smart Learning Environment” spoke about the unique aspects of smart learning and discussed the benefits of smart learning in diverse cases. He shared his notions on the skills that are needed by educators for smart learning.

Dr. Anurag Jain, working in CGS Indraprasth University, Delhi shared his thoughts on Information Security and the measures that have to be taken care while making online financial transactions. In the post talk Q&A session, he enlightened the gathering about the precautions one must take before engaging in any kind of online/offline transactions through electronic devices.

Mr. Mani Madhukar from IBM Corporation presented a very interesting talk on blockchain technology and its growing significance. The invited talk session was followed by poster presentations and paper presentations by students, research scholars and academicians across the country.

The two-day national conference ended with the valedictory session addressed by Dr. P. Prakash, Vice Chancellor, SRM University Delhi-NCR, Sonepat, and the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Manish Bhalla, Registrar, SRM University Delhi-NCR, Sonepat.

The function was attended by Mr. Senthil Kumar Director-Admission & Administration, SRM University Deans, faculty members, participants and students.
