SRM University honours Guru Drona Awards to School Principals

SRM University, Delhi-NCR, Sonepat, Haryana celebrated Guru Drona Awards – 2018, a Principal’s Conclave at the Metropolitan Hotel on December 14, 2018. Hilarious it was, when the University, in associated with the Action Committee of Unaided Recognised Private Schools, where eminent educationists, teachers and faculty members, dignitaries, experts, and most specifically, more than hundred school Principals attended the function for making a wider and vital University-School collaboration. This effervescent programme had been idealised by the university, as a collaborative initiative to bring the University and the Schools together, well-knitted in a Partnership, where educationists representing both university and schools become an intractable agency in modelling a new generation of teachers in different schools, representing, government and private.

The leitmotif of this programme was to bring the school teachers and university teachers under one gambit for excelling, exhilarating and manoeuvring the culture of teaching-learning for making outstanding performance in education, particularly school education. After the lamp-lighting and exchange of greetings, Dr. P. Prakash, the Vice Chancellor, SRM University welcomed the august gathering, and explicated that SRM universities and their branch institutions are catering more than 85000 students representing India and some of the foreign countries. Furthermore, he said, this fledgling five-year-old new institution, with a motto, learn, leap and lead, believes knowledge, which is one of the greatest and most efficient aspects of a human personality, originated, developed, transmitted, translated, transferred and ultimately transformed among generations to generations is to be shared by the universities.

Mr. Monoj Tiwari, Member of Parliament and President, Delhi State Unit, Bharatiya Janata Party, who was the chief guest, eulogized the programmes initiated by the university and emphasized the schemes conceptualized and implemented by the government for the welfare of the teachers and learners, and articulated that teachers are not only the real builders of the society but also the embodiment of knowledge and wisdom.  A panel discussion on ‘Active Sustainable Development’ chaired by Prof. Samuel Raj, Dean Academic Affairs, SRM University, where Mr. Shankar Goenka, motivational speaker and entrepreneur; Sh. S.K. Bhattacharya, Ms. Abha Sadana; Sh. Ashok Pandey and Mr. Pramod Sharma spoke. Moreover, a second panel session chaired by Mr. Senthil Kumar, Director, Administration and Admission, SRM University on ‘Vocational, Professional and Entrepreneurial Education,’ was shared by Ms. Surjeet Khanna, Mr. S. N. Jain, Mr. Ashok Khandelwal and Dr. Rajesh Hassija. The Chief Guest Mr. Monoj Tiwari and the Guest of Honour, Mr. Yaduvendra Mathur, IAS, gave away Guru Drona Awards to those selected Principals. The function was attended by Mr. Manoj Madhavan Kutty, Deputy Director Admission and International Collaboration, government officials and guests.

While the Principal’s Conclave proved to be a constructive and dialogic event, the participants vowed to continue, in collaborating and coordinating such initiatives for the betterment of the teaching–learning process. The award function ended with a vote of thanks proposed by the Registrar, Dr. Manish Bhalla, followed by national anthem.
