Special lecture by Mr. Oscar Fernandes

SRM University, Centre for Policy Studies and Research, Delhi-NCR ,Sonepat organised special lecture by Mr. Oscar Fernandes, Former Union Cabinet Minister for Transport, Road and Highways and Labour and Employment delivered his thought provoking lecture on the topic “Is India ready to accept new labour reforms in terms of hire and fire policy” as part of the commemoration of Sir Chotu Ram.
Mr.Oscar Fernandes provided comparative reading of the labour discourse at the global and national level. He emphasized on the role of policy makers and social movements to engage with the question of labour in rigorous fashion. Questions of global poor and changing dimensions of labour wee discussed as backdrop to the transforming equations of labour across the globe. Professor Ashok K. Kantroo, Dean, Faculty of Law foregrounded the broader labour equations in the context of current political economy. Professor Manish Bhalla, Registrar gave welcome address and also spoke about the relevance on the topic. Mr.Ardhendhu Thakur shared his views on organizing such as programme of contemporary relevance. The programme ended with vote of thanks given by Ms.Deepshikha, Head of the Department. Ms.Siva Ganga, student of BA.LL.B programme was honored in this event for her impressive legal internship at Saudi Arabia.
